Pepe Leaves Madrid

Okay, as a Madrista, I felt an urge to post this.

Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira, Commonly known as Pepe, has officially left Real Madrid and has signed for Turkish club Besiktas.

Pepe’s Journey with Real Madrid has been a phenomenal one. He was bought from FC Porto back in 2007, for $30M; And for the past 10 years, he has been an undisputed starter in almost every match. Accompanied by Sergio Ramos on the backline, the aggressive defender has always been a pleasure to watch. The El-Classicos would simply not be the same anymore.

Many people may mock Pepe for being overly aggressive, but I firmly believe that Pepe is a warrior, and did what’s best for the team. Madristas all over the world (including me) were impressed by his never-give-up attitude. It will surely be awkward to see Pepe not in the starting lineup. I, however, don’t want to blame the club management for this. Our Guy Jesus Vallejo has shown tremendous performance in the u-21 World Cup and in his loan-spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, and is returning the upcoming season. Keeping an aging player for 1-2 more years could’ve seen Vallejo being loaned out again. Pepe, though, felt that he had few more years left in him, so, he joined Besiktas on a free transfer.

He won countless trophies here at Madrid, the most prominent ones being 3 Champions’ Leagues and 3 LaLigas. He Also won 2 UEFA Super Cups, 2 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 Supercopa De Espanas, and 2 Copa Del Reys.

For the first time in last 10 years, the Real Madrid’s No. 3 Jersey is again vacated [] and is waiting to be assigned to someone. Will It be Vallejo? Maybe.

“I spent 10 wonderful years at Real Madrid, My two daughters were born in Madrid, I won three Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles as well. I love Real Madrid and their fans.”

Gracias Por Todo.
